RB Leipzig announced that Péter Gulácsi’s injury is not serious and that the Hungarian goalkeeper will return to training soon. Gulácsi, 34, sustained the injury during Saturday’s 3-1 home match against Freiburg.
After the half-time, the goalkeeper indicated a problem with his leg and was unable to continue. He was replaced by Belgian Maarten Vandevoordt, who completed the second half without conceding a goal. The 22-year-old will also start in the home cup match against FC St. Pauli on Tuesday.
Gulácsi’s recent performances have drawn significant praise, especially for his remarkable saves during the UEFA Champions League match against FC Liverpool.
As we earlier reported, he played a crucial role in keeping Leipzig in the contest, showcasing his skills under pressure and earning accolades for his efforts. Additionally, his performance has been recognized by the prestigious German journal Kicker, which highlighted his excellent contributions in key matches this season.
It was always the plan to start Maarten in the cup match. He did well this weekend; he radiated calmness,” said head coach Marco Rose on the club’s website.
