Following his recent visit to Türkiye, Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, announced that the international partnership of the Hungary Helps Program has reached a new milestone, as a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Hungary Helps Agency.
“We have achieved a diplomatic success: international development cooperation is expanding the Hungarian-Turkish relations,” Tristan Azbej wrote on Facebook. “I am confident that this agreement will immediately be translated into joint action, as we share the same principles: to help people in crisis zones to build their future and to prevent migration in the Sahel region and elsewhere through local assistance,” he continued.
He said there was scope for joint work in a number of areas, including
“Our Turkish partners are very grateful for the help that Hungary has given them following the earthquake.
TIKA and the Hungary Helps Program are not just a diplomatic success, but an extension of the solidarity shown towards each other last year to communities in need around the world,”
said Tristan Azbej.
He said his visit to Türkiye was full of uplifting events:
thanks to the Hungarian government’s support under the Hungary Helps Program last year, the “cultural heart of the earthquake-stricken Osmaniye province is beating again.”
“This is important news for us Hungarians too,” the State Secretary pointed out, adding that during his visit he was able to hand over not only a cultural center on behalf of the Hungarian government, but also the restored Béla Bartók memorial exhibition as part of the project. He recalled that the world-famous Hungarian composer collected and preserved the treasures of Turkish folk music in this province in 1936.
“During my visit, I had discussions with many leaders, deputy ministers, and governors on various areas of cooperation. However, one element was common to all of them: the deep gratitude of the Turkish people towards the Hungarian people who came to their aid in times of need,” concluded Azbej.
