Péter Gulácsi was one of the best, if not the best, player during Wednesday night’s match between RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC in the third round of the UEFA Champions League. The Hungarian goalkeeper made a number of excellent saves to attract the attention of the Liverpool fans, reports Magyar Nemzet.
Péter Gulácsi played for Liverpool FC for six years, but was on loan at the English club, and when he wore the Reds’ jersey he played for the U21 team. Unfortunately, he never played for the senior squad. That is reason why he is not remembered by Liverpool fans as one of the classics.
However, for those who may have forgotten his name, Gulácsi’s performance against Arne Slot’s team on Wednesday was a memorable one,
and it was definitely not his fault that RB Leipzig lost the Champions League match 1-0.
A top-drawer save from Pete!

Liverpool and RB Leipzig are both soaring in their respective leagues, but only the former has so far been able to do so in the Champions League. Accordingly, the away team started Wednesday’s match better, as Liverpool was without a threat in the first 25 minutes. Soon, Darwin Núñez got into action and scored the first goal of the game.
There could have been more goals in the first half, but Gulácsi made several bravura saves.
The Leipzig goalkeeper’s two national team teammates, Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) and Willi Orbán (RB Leipzig), were also on the pitch from the start and both did their jobs well.

For a long time in the second half, both teams seemed content with the result, as the minutes ticked by slowly. As time went on, Leipzig began to recover, but like Gulácsi, Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher was also putting in a strong performance. RB Leipzig suffered another defeat and remain on zero points after three rounds.
Gulácsi’s performance inspired many and the users of X were amazed to see his saves. Here are some of the words of praise on social media:

The Kop Watch, a completely independent Liverpool FC fan channel, compared Gulácsi’s performance on Wednesday to that of Thibaut Courtois, considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world:
