As part of the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year, the production Pure Source – In Bartók’s Footsteps in Anatolia, directed by Csaba Káel, was presented in Istanbul.
Supported by the MOL-New Europe Foundation, the event was attended by notable figures, including László Kövér, Speaker of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his wife, Anikó Lévai, and Péter Hoppál, Government Commissioner for the cultural season.
In his welcome speech, Kövér praised MOL’s cultural patronage, emphasizing that mutual trust is vital for effective partnerships and a functioning economy. Mr. Hoppál reflected on the cultural season launched last December under the motto “A Century of Friendship and Cooperation,” noting over a hundred Hungarian cultural productions had been warmly received in Türkiye, mirroring the reception of Turkish programs in Hungary. He expressed confidence in the positive impact of joint cultural activities.
The artistic production Tiszta forrás (Pure Source), featuring Mária Majda Guessous, the Ballet Company of Győr, and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, showcased Bartók’s work through Turkish and Hungarian music.
During his official visit to Türkiye, Kövér opened the exhibition The House on the Danube Embankment highlighting Turkish-Hungarian political relations and the Hungarian Parliament building’s historical significance. He also attended a ceremony honoring Erdal Şalikoğlu, who received the Order of Merit of Hungary for his dedication to Hungarian culture and fostering Hungarian-Turkish relations.
