Elon Musk’s Starlink Now Available in Hungary

Hungary Today 2024.10.17.

U.S. billionaire Elon Musk’s satellite internet service Starlink is now available in the country through a Hungarian company, Világgazdaság reports.

Starlink has been added to the Hungarian internet service offer, announced Vannet Telekommunikációs Kft., an official Starlink representative in Hungary. This satellite system is a development of the U.S. space company SpaceX, launched with the aim of providing global internet services. SpaceX is owned by none other than Elon Musk, the richest man in the world.

Vannet Telecommunications Kft. is the first company to offer Starlink satellite internet service to business customers with Hungarian language support.

As they put it in their statement, the high-speed and short-latency technology opens up new perspectives for users in places with poor internet coverage and as a secondary, backup service.

Business customers will now have access to Starlink through a contract with a Hungarian company. In practice, this means that product support and customer service is available in Hungarian. However, Vannet did not reveal how much it costs.

Satellite internet is known to be able to provide excellent coverage in a given area independent of the terrestrial infrastructure.

Although coverage in Hungary is quite good by European standards, there are still some areas not covered by cables and outside the reach of transmission towers.

The technology of satellite internet is not new, but has some technical limitations. For instance, typically all customer traffic is carried over a single satellite, which limits the available bandwidth.

The technology that makes Starlink so attractive is revolutionary, however, because it does not transmit data via a single satellite, but via thousands of satellites.

The advantages thus gained make it competitive with terrestrial solutions. The service is capable of providing users with bandwidths of up to 350 megabits. It can do virtually everything that traditional solutions can do, including large data uploads and downloads and video conferences. With these parameters, it can meet the needs of the majority of domestic businesses, the company writes.
