Experts from Fourteen Countries to Meet in the Tokaj Wine Region

For the second time, the University of Tokaj is organizing the Tokaj Wine Congress from October 27 to 30 in Sárospatak (northeastern Hungary) and other venues in the historic wine region. The aim of the congress is to provide participants with up-to-date knowledge on the latest trends and achievements in viticulture and winemaking, which can be put into practice to contribute to the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector, writes Turizmus.com.

The congress will be divided into six thematic sessions, each of which will address current issues in viticulture and oenology. International experts from fourteen countries will include representatives from prestigious institutions such as the University of Bordeaux, as well as researchers from Spain, South Africa, and other countries.

Environmental and economic sustainability, improving efficiency, adapting to climate change, and the applicability of digitalization and robotics in work processes will be among the key themes.

In the wine sector, new research on the production of naturally sweet wines will be discussed, as well as the latest developments in sparkling and semi-sparkling wines and sparkling wine production.

There will also be a special section on the relationship between wine and health, where participants will be able to learn about the results of research carried out by the University of Tokaj in this field.

In the section on heritage and wine tourism, the latest trends in wine tourism and its research results will be on the agenda, as well as the written heritage of wine and its representation in the field of arts.

Among the economic issues affecting the wine industry, the sustainability of the competitiveness of the wine sector, the importance of branding, and changing consumer habits will be addressed. The rise of other beverages in recent decades as competitors to wine cannot be neglected. Experts will also discuss the causes and effects of the surge in costs, which can no longer be offset by further price increases. On the third day, the topics of the sessions will be expanded to include the future of wine education.

The congress is open not only to professionals, but also to the general public, who will be able to gain an insight into the everyday life of one of the world’s best-known wine regions and the latest research results.
