Cooperation between the University of Debrecen and CATL for Skilled Workforce

A cooperation agreement between the University of Debrecen and the Hungarian subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) aims to promote the practical training of technical professionals, the development of curricula, and the implementation of joint research projects in the field of battery technology and energy industry.

According to the statement, the agreement signed on Monday covers several fields of expertise, including information technology, engineering and natural sciences, as well as research and development (R&D), education, science, and industry.

The aim is to ensure that the international leader in battery manufacturing is able to provide the skilled graduate workforce needed to operate the Debrecen plant in the long term,

and the university attaches particular importance to developing engineering training that meets the needs of the company, the communication highlighted.

“CATL is committed to training the professionals of the future. Through our partnership with the University of Debrecen, we will provide students with the opportunity to acquire the state-of-the-art industry knowledge that is key in the rapidly evolving world of battery technology,” Jason Chen, General Manager, Operations CATL Europe, was quoted in the release.

He emphasized:

A highly skilled workforce is essential to effectively support the uptake of sustainable electric transport, and the University of Debrecen’s strong track record is a guarantee of this.”

Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen, said that multinational companies coming to Debrecen can rely on the institution as a source of knowledge for research, development, and innovation, as well as a human resource base. Their basic principle is to establish a relationship with the large companies settling in Debrecen that can be fruitful for both parties, especially for the players in the automotive sector, he added.

As they mentioned, CATL Debrecen signed an agreement with the Vocational Training Center of Debrecen in February to launch dual training, and in June it also agreed on strategic cooperation with the University of Miskolc, under which the company will participate in the practical training of students, the development of university curricula, and support the scientific and research activities of the institution. In addition, CATL plans to further collaborate with educational institutions in the region in the future.
