PM Orbán Discusses Serbia’s EU Path with His Counterpart at the Berlin Process Summit

Hungary Today 2024.10.15.

Viktor Orbán met with Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević on Monday in Berlin during the 10th Berlin Process summit, where the two politicians discussed bilateral cooperation and Serbia’s path to EU integration. The talks focused on strengthening transport links and enhancing Serbia’s European prospects.

According to tanjug.rs PM Vučević reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to its European path, stating that EU integration remains the country’s main geopolitical goal. However, he emphasized that Serbia will not compromise its relationships with other partners, including the BRICS nations.

We will stay on the European path but will not sever ties with other key partners if it does not serve our national interests,” Mr. Vučević said, underlining the importance of balanced foreign relations.

After their meeting, PM Vučević described Viktor Orbán as a “sincere friend of Serbia” and praised Hungary’s support for Serbia’s EU accession. Hungary has consistently backed the integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union.

As Hungary Today earlier reported, Budapest views peace and development in the Western Balkans as central to its foreign policy and has pledged to prioritize this issue during its upcoming EU Presidency. PM Orbán’s government has also emphasized the region’s strategic importance for Europe’s competitiveness and security.

Hungary’s consistent support for Serbia’s European aspirations reflects its broader goals in the region.
