The Hungarian competitors won two medals, one silver and one bronze each on the opening day of the canoe-kayak Super Cup in Hangzhou, China.
The three-day event began with the K1 short-course (3.4 km) marathon finals, in which ten Hungarians competed.
Among them, kayaker Vanda Kiszli was the best performer, finishing second behind world champion Melina Andersson of Sweden.
In the same event, Zsófia Czéllai-Vörös came fifth, Panna Csépe ninth, while in the men’s event, Adrián Boros was sixth and Olivér Varga 11th.
Four-time world champion and two-time Olympic sprint medalist Balázs Adolf won another Hungarian medal in the canoe event, finishing third.
Máté Zsidai came in 13th and Simon Sebestyén 15th. Sára Lili Matkovics finished fifth and Dóra Hegedűs eighth in the women’s race.
This is the first Super Cup in which representatives of several disciplines – sprint, marathon, slalom, and polo – compete at the same time. The Hungarians will be competing in the marathon and the sprint, with eight athletes in the latter discipline. On Saturday there will be further marathon finals, and the first sprint finals will also take place during the weekend.
A total of 500 athletes are taking part in the three-day event in China.
