Exhibition Showcases the Work of World-renowned Hungarian Scientists

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.10.09.

The Castle Garden Bazaar’s (Várkert Bazár) open-air exhibition “Eureka! – In the footsteps of Hungarian genius,” presenting the work of world-famous Hungarian scientists, opened its doors on Tuesday.

The special selection of works, inspired by the success of two Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian scientists, Katalin Karikó and Ferenc Krausz, showcases the outstanding scientific achievements that have shaped our world today and of which we can all be proud, as they are still reflected in a variety of fields, from disease control to space exploration and everyday entertainment.

At the opening event, Gergely Fodor, the government commissioner responsible for the renewal of the Buda Castle District, said that the exhibition presents popular inventions and their creators in thematic units grouped around the concepts of space, distance, information, and people, highlighting the personal and scientific connections between them, rather than following a strict chronological presentation.

Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), stressed that Hungarian society and the nation need to awaken a sense of appreciation and responsibility for Hungarian talents, scientists, and science, as well as a desire to recognize and support them. “The greatness of Hungarian geniuses is also reflected in the fact that their achievements have enriched both the Hungarian nation and humanity as a whole,” said the MTA President.

A total of 32 panels in 16 free-standing, illuminated installations will bring visitors closer to the significant discoveries of 52 Hungarian inventors. The popular inventions, scientific achievements, their creators and the connections between them are presented in four thematic blocks.

The exhibition, curated by historian and museologist Vilmos Gál, is open until the end of November and is free of charge.
