Probably Dominik Szoboszlai’s best game of the season was Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bologna in the UEFA Champions League, writes Index. The Hungarian national team captain made plenty of runs, tackled, led the counter-pressing, was involved in Alexis MacAllister’s early goal, and then provided a specific assist for Mohamed Salah.

The English newspapers were not stingy with their excellent grades, so much so that Thisisanfield.com chose Dominik Szoboszlai as man of the match against Bologna.

Our compatriot was all over the place, he ran his heart out, and after a lackluster performance in recent times, he stood out this time.

Liverpool.com‘s review mentions Szoboszlai as one of the so-called winners of the match, along with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, the latter scoring his first goal in the the Champions League.

Here are some reviews and feedback the Hungarian footballer received after his outstanding performance:

  • Liverpool.com: 8. “His best game for a while, the Hungarian was a strong runner and created a couple of half-chances (…). He always works hard but there was a bit more quality in the final third here.”
  • Thisisanfield.com: 8. “A ‘clearly up for it’ game from very early on, the Hungarian was quick to nip in and win the ball multiple times and played a lovely return pass in the build-up to Mac Allister’s goal. (…)Definitely a big performer on the night when others were losing or lacking concentration. Great off-the-ball work.”
  • Espn.com: 7. “Should have done more to get his effort on target in the first half after striking wide of the goal. Worked hard in midfield when tracking back, showing good strength to win the ball back on multiple Bologna counter-attacks.”
  • Goal.com: 7.5. “Went close with a well-struck effort early and was lively throughout in an attacking midfield role that he clearly enjoys, with the Hungarian finding Salah in space before the Egyptian’s strike.”
  • 90min.com: 7. “Has been heavily criticized of late but was excellent here. Combined his usual relentlessness off the ball with some lovely touches on it.”
  • Liverpoolecho.co.uk: 8. “Much, much better than the weekend, ferociously leading the press and involved in many of Liverpool’s attacks, including both goals. Subbed.”
