Hungarian Gripen Aircraft on NATO Exercise in Greece

Hungary Today 2024.10.03.

Hungarian Gripen fighter jets are taking part in the Ramstein Flag 24 air defense exercise in Greece, Honvedelem.hu reports.

The nearly two-week training exercise aims to enhance the capabilities of NATO allied forces, improve the decision-making process in an ever-changing combat environment, and further strengthen cooperation between members.

The exercise will also demonstrate the Alliance’s commitment and ability to defend itself against all potential adversaries.

Ramstein Flag 24 is the first time that NATO’s air force has participated in such a sophisticated air exercise with partners from other regions, the Alliance’s portal writes. The exercise gives the allied nations the opportunity to practice how to tackle the most challenging threats that Europe could face, and to ensure that the allied air force is able to provide the high level of capability needed to defend NATO countries.

Twelve allies are participating in the multinational live-fire exercise, hosted by the Hellenic Air Force.

During the first half of October, more than 130 fighter and enabler aircraft, as well as Maritime, Land and Special Operation Forces, will execute integral components of Air Power.

Hungary Today last reported at the end of May that the Hungarian Air Force had participated in a NATO exercise. At that time, an exercise called Lion Effort was held in the Czech Republic, in which about 500 service personnel participated, roughly 150 of whom were international participants. The training included the JAS-39 Gripen aircraft of the Hungarian Defense Forces, together with the host Czechs, and new NATO member Sweden.
