On Tuesday evening, the National Security Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, convened to discuss the Middle East conflict’s escalation and its potential consequences for Hungary.

After the meeting, Viktor Orbán emphasized: “we want all Hungarians to be safe.” The cabinet, which includes the Minister of Defense, the Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs, and national security advisors, reviewed the regional situation, the safety of Hungarian citizens in the area, and the country’s security status.
The session took place after a deadly terrorist attack in Tel Aviv, where gunmen killed several people near a tram stop.
The attack coincided with Iran launching ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israel’s military operation against Hezbollah. Iran reportedly fired nearly 200 missiles, prompting Israeli authorities to issue shelter-in-place warnings as air raid sirens and explosions were heard in Jerusalem and across the Jordan River Valley.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó updated the public on the status of Hungarian citizens in Israel, stating that 426 Hungarians are registered for consular protection. He urged Hungarians to avoid traveling to the region unless absolutely necessary and advised those in Israel to contact the embassy or the Foreign Ministry’s Call Center in case of emergency.
We continue to urge everyone to travel to the region only in absolutely urgent cases,” Mr. Szijjártó emphasized.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in, stating that the October 7 Hamas attack would not have happened if he were still in office, highlighting his administration’s lack of war in the Middle East.
