It is the first time in the history of the International Travel Awards that a project has been honored with three prizes. The Liget Budapest project won first place in two categories, namely “Best Tourism Development Project” and “Best Family-Friendly Development in Europe”, while the House of Music Hungary was awarded the title of “Most Attractive Tourism Destination in Europe” in Dubai, announced Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt.
The project for the renewal of the City Park in Budapest competed with popular tourism projects from over 120 countries and was chosen as the best project by the jury and the public.
“We are very proud that
the Liget Budapest project, currently the most significant cultural investment in Europe, and the associated House of Music Hungary contribute significantly to the tourist attractiveness of the country and the capital,
confirmed by the votes of the public and the recognition of the tourism industry. In addition to the exceptionally high number of visitors, this is also proven by the fact that we won three prizes at the International Travel Awards, one of the most important tourism competitions,” Benedek Gyorgyevics emphasized.
He added that one of the main objectives was to make the City Park an unmissable tourist attraction for visitors to Budapest. The increasing number of interested foreigners to the House of Music Hungary, the Museum of Ethnography and the BalloonFly viewpoint shows that we are on the international tourist map.
The long-term goal is to keep enriching the park with new cultural content and leisure experiences so that it is worth visiting Budapest and staying here for longer or even returning again and again.
“With the world’s most prestigious awards for tourism and real estate development, we can now say that everyone is talking about the uniqueness and complexity of the Liget project, where over 100-year-old institutions coexist peacefully with new ones of outstanding architectural quality, forming a living system, while nature, the park, surrounds them with recreational functions and leisure opportunities,” pointed out the CEO.
Speaking about the award ceremony in Dubai, Benedek Gyorgyevics noted that
in the first ten years of the Liget Budapest project, centuries-old cultural facilities were renovated and new facilities were created alongside them, which are among the most exciting contemporary buildings in the world.
Thanks to these developments, Hungary’s tourist appeal has increased significantly and the new contemporary Liget buildings have become internationally recognized landmarks of the country. “The first decade of the City Park’s revitalization has already brought in more than two dozen prestigious international awards,” he added.
