Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year Is “a Success beyond all Imagination”

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.09.25.

The Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year has continued with a series of special events in Ankara and Istanbul, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation said.

The working group of the two countries responsible for the Hungarian-Turkish cultural year in Ankara has assessed the series of events and the Hungarian-Turkish cooperation as a success beyond all imagination. The working group meeting was chaired by Ayda Ünal, Ambassador of the Turkish side, and Péter Hoppál, Government Commissioner for the Hungarian side, on September 20 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.

The meeting assessed the programs and cooperation activities carried out so far and agreed on the remaining tasks. The working group started preparations for the closing event of the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year.

As an event of the season, an exhibition of works by Hungarian contemporary artists opened on  September 18 at the Pera Museum in Istanbul. The exhibition “Calculations and Coincidences,” open until January 2025, presents Hungarian artists Vera Molnár, Dóra Maurer and Gizella Rákóczy through their works selected from the contemporary art collection of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB).

The exhibition pays tribute to the work of three pioneers of algorithmic art.

In his opening speech, Government Commissioner Péter Hoppál said that

the aim of the symbolic 100 programs organized during the season was to create projects and programs in all areas of culture that would continue to stimulate and strengthen Hungarian-Turkish cooperation in the future.

According to the museum’s Facebook page, the exhibition program will feature online and in-person inspirational guided tours and interactive workshops for all ages. The program includes workshops specifically designed for different age groups, focusing on numbers, probability, geometric shapes and coincidences, as well as online and in-person exhibition tours for primary and secondary school students.

Péter Hoppál also opened the Hungarian-Turkish Translators’ Conference and Workshop of the Hungarian National Széchényi Library on September 19 at the Presidential Library in Ankara. Underlining the importance of the work of literary translators, he said that getting to know each other’s stories and reading each other’s literature will help us better understand and accept each other.

The program was an important step in strengthening the relationship between the Hungarian and Turkish literary translation communities and deepening cultural dialogue,

the National Széchenyi Library said in a social media post.

At the opening ceremony in the CerModern Gallery, the Győr Ballet from Hungary performed a production of “Piano Plays/Romance,” choreographed to works by Ferenc Liszt, Richard Wagner and Zoltán  Kodály, on the stage of the State Opera House on the evening of September 22.
