Sibiu (Nagyszeben, Romania) is set to host the vibrant Ars Sacra festival from September 14 to 22, promising an engaging exploration of sacred music and art, writes Krónika Online.
Organized by HÍD – Association of Hungarians in Sibiu, this year’s festival will see nine historical places of worship open their doors, including the St. John’s Church, the Orthodox Cathedral, the city’s Reformed Church and Great Synagogue.
The festival will showcase a rich tapestry of performances spanning various genres of sacred music.
Notable guests include organist Erich Türk and choirs from Wroclaw, adding an international flair to the program. Levente Serfőző, chief organizer, highlighted the festival’s collaborative spirit, stating, “it is a great collaboration, and as the festival is all about sacred culture, I am delighted that everyone has joined in with open arms and hearts.”
The festival will also feature ten exhibitions this year, up from four last year, and special events like Open Church Day, which allows the public to explore churches normally closed during the week. Mr. Serfőző emphasized the festival’s success, noting, “we plan to organize the event every year and hope to expand it to nearby towns.”
Ars Sacra not only celebrates religious diversity but also aims to strengthen cultural ties between Budapest and Sibiu, making it a must-visit event for art and music enthusiasts.
