As Hungary Today reported earlier, the restoration of the Archangel Gabriel statue at Budapest’s Heroes’ Square has officially begun.
The statue, created by sculptor György Zala and unveiled in 1901, is undergoing a significant restoration due to deterioration despite previous repairs.
MTI state news agency has shared photos of the meticulous 3D scanning and detailed documentation involved in this extensive renovation, ensuring the statue’s preservation for future generations.
Now, it is being carefully dismantled, with the Archangel statue’s piedestral sphere removed by crane for thorough restoration. The Holy Crown and double cross will also be detached from the statue’s hands on-site.
