Hungary Today 2024.08.07.

With Imre Szabics’ return the German Bundesliga (top league of German soccer) will regain the Hungarian presence on the side of the soccer field, Magyar Nemzet writes.

Hungarian coaches working in the Bundesliga is not unknown. In the last season of the league, Zsolt Lőw served as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich and was also part of Thomas Tuchel’s staff the previous season. As a head coach, Mr. Lőw most recently led Hertha Berlin in the German top flight in spring 2023. Both Lőw and renowned coach Pál Dárdai left their respective clubs in the summer.

According to a statement on Augsburg’s official website, Mr. Szabics will replace Jonas Schauermann, who has left for Brighton, on Danish head coach Jess Thorup’s staff.

I have always followed Augsburg and admired the work done here, so it is a great feeling to be back at the club.

My discussions with the management have been very positive, and I am looking forward to starting work with the rest of the staff,” said Imre Szabics.

At 43, the Hungarian expert has a history with Augsburg, having played 58 games for the club between 2007 and 2010. He was most recently with FC Zürich in Switzerland, where he first served as assistant coach of the senior team and later as coach of the Youth-21 team, until the end of 2022.
