The Secretary of State for Public Finance, Péter Benő Banai, highlighted significant economic progress in Hungary during a presentation in Sátoraljaújhely (Northern Hungary) at the Rákóczi Association’s camp.
Mr. Banai emphasized that there are about one million more people working in Hungary today than in 2010, attributing this to government policies aimed at fostering employment and income growth. He noted that price-adjusted earnings have increased by over sixty percent since 2010, indicating substantial wage growth for Hungarian workers.
The Secretary of State also addressed the importance of family policies, linking them to economic outcomes. He pointed out that maintaining and increasing family allowances has contributed to a higher birth rate in Hungary, now exceeding the EU average. He stated:
achieving the desired number of children is not only a general social policy issue but also an economic one.”
In his detailed explanation of the state budget, Péter Benő Banai outlined that the largest share of state revenue comes from taxes on consumption and employment, while significant expenditures are allocated to social security, including pensions and family allowances. He explained the budget adoption process and highlighted the increased focus on national cohesion, with spending on related programs being twenty times higher than a decade ago. He asserted:
every Hungarian is responsible for every other Hungarian,” emphasizing the collective responsibility towards national unity.
The presentation was part of the All-Hungarian Secondary School Students’ Camp, attended by 644 students from 42 secondary schools in the Carpathian Basin, as well as Hungarian communities from Argentina, the USA, Finland, Canada, and Spain.
