On August 1, the winner of “Hungary’s Cake 2024” will be announced. The finals featured six unique cakes, each using ingredients from specified baskets: berries, cereals and seeds, vegetables, and oil seeds. The theme of this year’s competition was superfoods, writes 24.hu.
Here are the finalists and their cakes:
ÁRVÁCSKA
Fanni Paál and Gabriella Kiss from Budapest’s Dobay Cukrászda created a rich blend of forest and field flavors with layers of hazelnut, chocolate, blackcurrant jam, and sea buckthorn mousse, made from organic berries.
FEKETE GYÖNGY
Cofectioners of the REÖK Kézműves Cukrászda és Kávéház from Szeged, Southern Hungary named their cake “Black Pearl” for its blackcurrants and blackberries. Besides the dark berries the cake features Turkish and Piedmont hazelnuts, caramel, and Timur pepper for a little oriental hit.
HETEDHÉT
From Budapest’s best known Italian restaurant, Trattoria Pomo D’Oro, Ramóna Herbai’s dessert was inspired by the famous Eszterházy cake. She created the pastry with flaxseed flour, hazelnuts, sea buckthorn and sea buckthorn jelly, honey, browned buttercream, chamomile flowers.
MÁKVIRÁG
Alfréd Kovács from Vác (Édes Vonal pastry shop) combined childhood flavors with white chocolate cream, blackcurrant, in an almond flour poppy seed sponge cake topped with black sesame seed grillage.
RIGÓFÜTTY
Habcsók Confectionary’s pastry chef features blueberries and blackcurrants layered with poppy seed whipped dough, pâte à choux with poppy seeds, almond mousse, and milk chocolate crunch, finished with almond glaze.
TÖKIBOGYÓ
From Solier Café, Gödöllő (near Budapest), Csaba Szoljár based his conception on pumpkin. The cake highlights pumpkin itself, pumpkin seeds, oil, orange, and honey. Each cake contains 650 grams of pumpkin and is rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
These innovative cakes blend traditional and superfood ingredients, showcasing the talent and creativity of Hungarian confectioners, promising a delightful competition outcome.
