Free Fan Bus Services and Increased Capacity During the Formula 1 Weekend

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.07.17.

During the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix – between July 19-21 – the H8 HÉV (suburban railway) will run with increased capacity, Volánbusz will operate free fan services, and in the evenings the double-decker KISS and modern FLIRT motor trains will help the journey home from Gödöllő (near Budapest). Furthermore, a motorcycle ambulance and a tow truck will also be on duty on the M3 motorway during the weekend.

The Pest Vármegye24 day ticket (HUF 999, EUR 2.55), which can also be purchased as F1 Travel Pass on the occasion of the Hungarian Grand Prix, is valid on all relevant intercity trains of the MÁV-VOLÁN Group, while the 30-day Pest Vármegye24 pass (HUF 9,450, EUR 24.17) is worth buying for the Center for Budapest Transport (BKK) vehicles.

For a smoother journey home, the MÁV-VOLÁN Group asks those traveling to Budapest to transfer from the Volánbusz special buses in Gödöllő to the modern and air-conditioned MÁV-START motor trains, which will take them to Keleti Train Station in 30-40 minutes.

To buy tickets, the company recommends the MÁV app, and to plan the journey, the brand new EMMA map-based route planner. All information about the Hungarian Grand Prix is available here.

In addition, to improve access to and from the Hungaroring, the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development‘s employees

have built a VIP lane for drivers and teams between the M3 motorway, the M0 motorway and the Hungaroring, and have also installed more than 100 traffic signs.

It has been reported that on the section of the M3 motorway close to the capital, longer journey times and congestion are to be expected during the race weekend. During the event, the motorway will be used by a third more vehicles than on an average weekend.

Here are some recommendations from the company:

  • Drivers on the M3 motorway will be able to access the circuit from the junctions at kilometers 19 and 23, and the temporary VIP lane will be reserved for authorized drivers only.
  • For those arriving from Budapest Airport and the M5 motorway, the M0 motorway-M31 motorway route is recommended.
  • From the M31 towards Budapest, the M3 motorway can also be accessed via the junction at kilometers 23 or 19.
  • In order to avoid congestion on Sunday afternoon, drivers traveling on the M3 motorway towards Budapest from Gödöllő should take the M31 motorway-M0 motorway route.
  • After the race, it is also possible to join the M3 motorway at the junctions at kilometer 19 and at Mogyoród.
