A little over two weeks after the surgery on Barnabás Varga, who was seriously injured in the UEFA Euro 2024 group game against Scotland, the striker has already reported for work. The Ferencváros (Fradi) football player arrived at his team’s training camp in Austria yesterday morning, writes Magyar Nemzet.

Ferencváros footballers woke up to a big surprise yesterday morning. Barnabás Varga, who suffered a serious injury at the European Championship and has since undergone surgery, arrived at Ferencváros’ training camp in Austria, the club’s Facebook page posted.

According to Magyar Nemzet,

the Hungarian striker will spend his days cycling and doing other light exercises in the gym, and will be able to start serious training in approximately three to four weeks.

“In three to four weeks I will be able to do some serious training, but in a mask, because football cannot stop. The full recovery will take six months, but I will be able to play in the meantime. I will have to wear the mask until my full recovery,” explained the striker.

As Hungary Today previously reported, FIFA could pay Ferencváros tens of millions of euros in compensation under the Club Protection Program (CPP) it has set up, while the international association will pay the Barnabás Varga’s wages. However, the governing bodies of international football have not yet commented on the Hungarian football player’s case, but based on previous incidents, Fradi should receive compensation. The program pays compensation in line with the injured player’s salary if he misses more than 28 days. The maximum compensation per footballer and per injury is EUR 7.5 million per year, with a maximum of EUR 20,548 per day for up to a year. The Hungarian striker’s salary is expected to be over EUR 20,000 per month.
