The pair of Blanka Guzi and Noémi Eszes won the bronze medal in the women’s relay at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Budapest on Monday. Soon after the women’s bronze medal, the pair of Richárd Bereczki and Mihály Koleszár also achieved a podium finish, winning the silver medal in the men’s relay.
The event is organized in the BOK Sports Hall, the swimming pool next to the Gerevich Aladár National Sports Hall and the statue park between the Puskás Arena and the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena.
In the bonus event, The Hungarians did not score any points in the bonus event, but before the combined event they were already fourth, 33 seconds behind the then third-placed Germany. After a close race in the final,
the women’s relay team took third place on the podium with a time of 12:55.72, the best time overall.

“It was a great experience in all aspects, the bronze medal gives me a big boost for my individual performance”, said Noémi Eszes.
“I definitely won this competition, where for me it was not about the placing. The bronze medal is the crown on our performance,” Blanka Guzi stressed, adding that her swimming was better than she expected, and that she was not satisfied with her fencing, but she did not consider it bad.
The gold medal went to Britain and the silver to Germany.

On the first day, the men’s relay was held after the women’s competition and partly in parallel with it, with six duos competing for medals. For them, the day began with swimming, with the Hungarian pair completing the 2×100 meters in 1:50.94. This result put them in third place, but then in the fencing event they were tied with the Italians for second place. Later, in the final combined event, the men’s duo led for a while, but eventually finished second.
The Hungarian team was the best overall with a time of 11:50.56.

“After a long season, this is worth a silver medal,” Bereczki stressed. “After a day’s rest, we are aiming for a medal in the individual competition,” he added. “We wanted to give our best in all the events. In front of our home crowd, this silver is almost gold. It was a great experience to compete at home,” Koleszár summed up.
The European Championships will end on Sunday with the mixed relay.
