The State Secretary for Parliamentary and Strategic Affairs called the Rákóczi Camp and its events real national meeting points at the opening of the third Rákóczi Free University in Sátoraljaújhely (northern Hungary along the Slovak border) on Thursday.
Miklós Panyi stressed that the events organized by the Rákóczi Association, attended by more than 10,000 young Hungarians from the Carpathian Basin and the rest of the world every summer, are a wonderful, open expression of national solidarity. He said that the organization’s work in nation-building, supporting Hungarian youth, strengthening the Hungarian language in the Carpathian Basin, and the school choice program and school bus network is exemplary.
The State Secretary stressed that the Hungarian government supports the association in these activities and they are proud that a strategic partnership has been established, within the framework of which they can do a lot for the Hungarian community in the Carpathian Basin. He said that the Hungarian language renewal movement had also started in Sátoraljaújhely, Széphalom, that made the area a “real cultural and national emanation point.”
Thanks to this, the camp and the surrounding area have “enormous power,”
he added.
Miklós Panyi said these meetings and the fact that young people can be together at the camp are important, pointing out that in today’s fast-paced world, social relations are changing, human relations are becoming much more superficial and everything is moving a little bit to the online world.
He stressed that
the experiences gained in camps can benefit participants for the rest of their lives and can even lead to lifelong friendships.
The State Secretary noted that it is difficult to organize similar events in Transcarpathia, which is why it is so valuable that there is an opportunity for young people to meet not far from the Hungarian-Ukrainian border.
Csongor Csáky, President of the Rákóczi Association, said in his welcome speech that the Rákóczi Free University was born three years ago out of the triad of freedom, action and community, and has since become a tradition. He added that
this summer, 15,000 Hungarian students from 32 countries will visit the Association’s camps.
