The renovation of the Tisza Castle in Geszt is not only about reconstruction, but also about the restoration of an era, the Minister of Construction and Transport emphasized in Geszt, Békés County (eastern Hungary).
János Lázár told MTI that the main aim of the ten-year project was to pass on the spirit of the place to future generations, because, as he said, understanding the personal lives of those who characterized the era as prime ministers, such as Kálmán Tisza or later István Tisza, contributes to understanding an era. “Understanding the spirit of the place, the birthplace and the home where ideas were born or where the politician started from, and which shaped his actions and thinking, is of paramount importance,” he added.
The main aim of the exhibition is to present the history of the Tisza family and Hungary,
and to make the era understandable for high school students with the help of museum educational tools.
He added that the place can be used for real history lessons, but can also provide information for those who want to understand the spirit of the era in depth. He noted that
it took three years recovering the original objects, including some that had been returned to Hungary after 80 years – found in Argentina and the United States – thanks to the Tisza family.
The exhibition will also look at how a family could rise to such a position, what it took for them to be so successful, and how the Tiszas were able to make Hungary great,”
the minister added.
János Lázár pointed out that the HUF 20 billion (EUR 50 million) investment includes the renovation of the castle complex, the creation of a 29-room hotel and restaurant, and the development of the village of Geszt, where a road and church were renovated, a school and a kindergarten were built.
