Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó emphasized the need for unity among sovereignist and patriotic forces within the European Union to counter what he perceives as the dominance of the liberal mainstream.

Following a meeting with Christian Hafenecker, Secretary General of the Freedom Party of Austria in Vienna, Minister Szijjártó highlighted challenges faced by patriotic movements across Europe and stressed the importance of their collaboration. He cited electoral victories of Hungary’s Fidesz and Freedom Party of Austria in the European Parliament as evidence of public support for their policies.

Péter Szijjártó underscored the close cooperation between Fidesz and the Freedom Party, noting shared views on key European issues.

Both parties advocate for reversing Europe’s pro-migration stance, prioritizing peace in Ukraine over arms transfers, and criticizing economic harm caused by European sanctions. They promote anti-migration policies, peace-oriented strategies, and competitive European policies. Mr. Szijjártó praised the Freedom Party’s strong public backing in Austria as a positive indicator for these positions.

Regarding energy security, Péter Szijjártó discussed the Trans-Austria Gas Pipeline (TAG) as crucial for Hungary’s safety reserves, facilitating LNG imports from Italy.

He emphasized the importance of energy security, especially amidst crises like the Ukraine conflict, opposing EU pressures to reduce reliance on natural gas. The Foreign Minister affirmed Hungary’s commitment to its national energy policy, ensuring security through diversified supply sources while maintaining existing relationships like the Turkish Stream pipeline. Recent investments in TAG were hailed for strengthening Hungary’s energy security.
