First Bus Rolls off BYD’s Assembly Line in Komárom

Hungary Today 2024.06.04.

The first BYD bus assembled in Hungary has been completed in Komárom (northwestern Hungary). The bus arrived in Miskolc (northern Hungary) from Ljubjana for testing, as the city had put out a tender for the purchase of three electric buses. The bus made the 700-kilometer-long journey to Hungary on its own with two recharges.

Totalcar reports that the B-18 model made at BYD’s assembly plant in Komárom, is a prototype vehicle that will be tested in several Hungarian and European cities in the near future. The 18.1-meter-long bus is equipped with BYD’s newly developed 511 kWh lithium-iron phosphate batteries.

According to the manufacturer, the UITP SORT 2 measurement cycle shows that the vehicle can cover 400 kilometers on a single charge.

The vehicle’s battery pack can be charged using either plug-in or with a pantograph from an overhead line. Most of the batteries, except for two units, are located on top of the bus.

The new bus is also equipped with a high level of technology: instead of rear-view mirrors, the driver is assisted by cameras and a digital blind spot monitoring system. Another interesting feature of the bus is that it has a wheel motor, so there was no need to install separate engine compartments, which other manufacturers usually install for the drive and battery packs. Due to the engine construction, four more seats have been replaced in the 2-2 seating layout with a modern design.
