Prime Minister Viktor Orbán responded to the news that former US President Donald Trump had been found guilty on all 34 charges in the so called hush-money trial, facing a potential sentence of up to 136 years in prison, reports Index.
The Prime Minister expressed support for President Trump, describing him as an honest man who prioritized America, earned global respect, and used that respect to build peace. Viktor Orbán encouraged Donald Trump to continue his fight and suggested that the public should be the judge in the upcoming November elections.

MEP András László of Hungary’s governing party, Fidesz, also commented on the case on his social media platform. Mr. László stated that it is not surprising, and mentioned double standards set by the “progressive elite.”

Hungary is all too familiar with the double standards liberal elites apply against conservatives and how they politicize even the justice system.

Former presidential candidate and governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, stated that “in America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner.” Governor DeSantis also expressed that “if the defendant were not Donald Trump, this case would never have been brought, the judge would have never issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict.”

Donald Trump is historically notable as the first former US president to be indicted in a criminal case.
The charges against him involve 34 counts of falsifying business records tied to payments made to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress. Daniels received USD 130K to keep quiet about her affair with Trump, which prosecutors argue was an attempt to cover up the scandal before the 2016 presidential campaign.

The former president has vehemently criticized the prosecution, labeling it “politically motivated” and orchestrated by Washington. Trump’s campaign team has accused District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is leading the case, of being politically motivated and claimed bias from Judge Juan Merchan. They also described the indictment as weak.
The jury’s verdict included convictions for falsifying documents, tax fraud, campaign finance violations, and election interference. Despite the potential maximum sentence of 136 years, it is highly improbable that Trump will face such an outcome. Legal experts suggest that the charges will likely be consolidated, potentially resulting in a maximum sentence of four years.
Additionally, there is a possibility that, despite the jury’s decision, the judge might not impose a prison sentence.
