After the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the government is planning to establish cooperation with another Far Eastern country, reports Index.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó traveled to Tokyo on Monday, where talks will focus on peace, energy security, and investment cooperation.

Besides his speech at the Global Energy Security Forum, the Minister held talks with Suzuki CEO Toshihiro Suzuki.

On his social media page, Szijjártó emphasized that in the 33 years since the Esztergom plant in northwestern Hungary started operations, four million vehicles have been produced, and 3,000 people are currently employed. The Foreign Minister concluded his post by saying that he had discussed further developments and investments with the Japanese car manufacturer.

Suzuki started production in Hungary in 1991. In the early days, production amounted to 1,000 vehicles per year, but nowadays 700 vehicles leave the Esztergom production line every day. In 1994, the 25,000th Suzuki was produced in Hungary, and in 2024, the four millionth vehicle rolled off the assembly line. Iconic models such as the Swift, the S-Cross, the Wagon R+, and the Vitara are produced at the Japanese company’s Hungarian plant.
