“Sometimes we see a significant jump in bookings for a sporting event or concert. Right now, for example, searches to Stuttgart, which is a huge fan zone for football fans, have increased almost fourfold, which is clearly due to the UEFA Euro 2024,” shared Eliška Řezníček Dočkalová, Vice President of Customer Experience at Kiwi.com.
Germany is the fourth most popular destination for flights during the European Championship. Most Hungarians fly to Spain, Italy, and Greece in the early summer. These are followed by Germany, leaving behind popular holiday destinations such as France (5th), Turkey (7th), Portugal (8th), and Malta (12th), regularly topping the summer booking list.
The Hungarian national football team will play its first match against Switzerland in Cologne on June 15. They will then play the Germans in Stuttgart on June 19, before meeting the Scots on June 23.
Those traveling to Germany during the UEFA Euro 2024, should note that from June 14 to July 14, 2024, checks on persons will be introduced at all border crossings in Germany.
The German Ministry of the Interior is also stepping up checks on roads, railways, and airports. Carriers traveling by lorry or bus will also be subject to checks, which will lead to longer journey times.
It is important that drivers check the validity of their identity cards before setting off. Drivers of coaches should keep a list of passengers on board, and coach operators should remind their customers of the importance of the validity of passengers’ identity documents, the Hungarian Road Transport Association emphasized.
