Flights Launching This Summer from Budapest to a Picturesque Italian Region

Hungary Today 2024.05.16.

Starting June 2, Ryanair will operate a direct flight from Budapest to Trieste, the center of one of the most exciting regions of Italy, twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia regional tourist office announced on Tuesday.

Sandra Battigaglia, representative of PromoTurismoFVG’s press department, said that this part of Italy is the closest to Hungary, with sandy beaches and mountainous hilly countryside with excellent wine-growing, reports Turizmus.com. The region’s millennia-old historical-cultural heritage reflects the influence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire as well as the traditions of Balkan, Mediterranean, and Venetian Italian culture.

As she pointed out, those who choose to fly from Budapest can expect to arrive at a small airport with its own railway station, which serves passengers quickly and is only 30 minutes from the region Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s center, Trieste, and other major towns of Udine and Gorizia.

Veronika Pertot, B2B Area Manager for PromoTurismoFVG, spoke about the active leisure opportunities in the region from the Adriatic coast to the mountains of the Alps. As she noted,

the region always offers something to suit both individual travelers and groups – not only in terms of water sports, exploring the world of lagoons and caves, but also hiking and mountain biking.

The most challenging stages of the Giro d’Italia international cycling race run through this region, she added. The race takes in landmarks such as Palmanova, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of medieval Venetian military architecture, and Grado, which has been awarded European Best Destination 2024 for its high quality beach.

Two other UNESCO World Heritage sites are also worth visiting in the region: Aguileia and its basilica, a center of ancient times, and Cividale del Friuli, the namesake of the region.

Udine’s many restaurants and shops offer seafood and quality wines, and Trieste, a town with many attractions recalls the heyday of the monarchy. Famous poets and writers, perhaps most famously James Joyce, author of Ulysses, used to frequent the town’s cafés overlooking the sea. From here, you can also visit Miramare Castle, and Duino Castle, a castle on the Trieste Riviera, built on a cliff.
