Zsolt Gyulay, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), shared details on M4 Sport’s program regarding the ceremonial swearing-in of Hungarian athletes at the Paris Olympics, scheduled for July 8.
He mentioned that the ceremony will be held at MÜPA (Palace of Arts) Budapest on July 8, aiming for a grand and ceremonial atmosphere. Additionally, he informed that the Olympic Village in Paris will open on July 12, prompting MOB staff to travel there in advance to arrange accommodations and set up the team’s office.
Regarding travel arrangements for athletes, Mr. Gyulay stated that plans are still being finalized, but discussions are underway with sports federations to determine arrival times. He highlighted the flexibility provided by an agreement with Wizz Air, ensuring smooth travel for the athletes.
Zsolt Gyulay also discussed the Olympic qualification series for urban sports, with the first event scheduled in Shanghai from Thursday to Sunday, followed by the final event in Budapest at the Ludovika Campus from June 20 to 23.
He emphasized that this series will feature top athletes from BMX freestyle, breakdancing, skateboarding, and sport climbing competing for spots in the Paris games.
In terms of preparations for the Budapest competitions, he assured that they are progressing well. He also mentioned the significance of Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visiting the Hungarian capital during the event, which coincides with Olympic Day, marking the 130th anniversary of the IOC.
Mr. Gyulay highlighted the festival as an excellent opportunity for Hungarian federations and representatives from the four sports to observe and measure themselves against the world’s best athletes.
Finally, he noted that while the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony is scheduled for July 26, the competitions will begin two days earlier.
