On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Facebook that talks on further expanding cooperation between BYD and Hungary were also held during the visit of the Chinese President to Budapest.
“Hungary’s economic weight in Europe will be greatly enhanced by the fact that BYD is bringing its first European electric car factory to Hungary, after its bus factory,” Péter Szijjártó wrote in his social media post. The politician added that the construction work in Szeged (southern Hungary) has begun and the infrastructure is being built. The first BYD models will be rolling off the production lines of the Szeged factory next year.
The Chinese company has been active in Hungary for a few years, already manufacturing electric buses in Komárom (northern Hungary). Additionally, a BYD battery assembly plant in Fót (near Budapest) was also announced in June last year.

We are not stopping here, as it is important for us that every segment of the automotive industry, from production to research and services, is present in Hungary, hence we have now agreed on further expanding the cooperation between BYD and Hungary,”
the Minister wrote.
He stressed that the future belongs to electric cars. The strongest economies will be of those countries where the biggest car factories of the future industry are built.
