The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), representing the Hungarian community in Transylvania, vows to amplify their voice in Brussels, Hunor Kelemen, the party’s leader, declared on Thursday at the RMDSZ’s national campaign event in Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely).
Speaking at the city sports hall, Mr. Kelemen highlighted the tangible progress achieved under the party’s leadership in municipal governments. He stressed the significance of the EP elections in June, urging Hungarian community members to actively participate in shaping their future. The party leader also emphasized that the outcomes of the local and EP elections would have far-reaching implications, influencing the trajectory of Romanian parliamentary elections and shaping the decade ahead.
Asserting RMDSZ’s dedication to building a strong community and homeland, Hunor Kelemen criticized the European Union’s failure to fulfill its commitments and called for an end to double standards.
He advocated for a Union prioritizing security, economic stability, and citizen support.
Mr. Kelemen urged Hungarian voters in Transylvania to turn out in large numbers to maintain their representation in the EP and local governments.
MEPs Gyula Winkler and Loránt Vincze echoed the importance of community cohesion and electoral participation, cautioning against the fragility of Hungarian political representation in Romania due to the electoral threshold. RMDSZ mayoral candidate István Szakács-Paál emphasized a platform centered on progress and development, offering an alternative to discord and division in local governance.
