The government, represented by Minister of Culture and Innovation János Csák, announced plans to organize the cultural and intellectual heritage of Hungarian culture preserved in public collections under the Hungarian National Museum.
This initiative aims to highlight Hungary’s 1,100 years of history and traditions, emphasizing the importance of cultural identity and sovereignty. The government plans to launch a cultural program series coinciding with Hungary’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Szilárd Demeter, Director-General of the Hungarian National Museum, will coordinate the integration process, requiring significant real estate development funds valued at approximately HUF 1,300B (EUR 3.3B).
The partner institutions, the Hungarian National Museum, the Petőfi Literary Museum, the National Széchényi Library, the Hungarian Natural History Museum, the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism, and the Museum of Applied Arts, will all be merged on July 1. Even though the institutions will form a “holding,” each of them will stay professionally autonomous and keep its original character.

Noémi Népessy, former director of the Budapest History Museum, will oversee the newly established institution.
