After the Serbian president announced that Serbia will host the 2028 UEFA Europa League final, he also revealed that he plans to compete jointly with Hungary for the hosting of the Olympic Games, balk.hu reports.
The construction of the Serbian National Stadium in Surčin, near Belgrade, has officially begun, and on this occasion, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that the 2028 final of the UEFA Europa League will be held there. He also suggested that
in the future, Serbia could sign up to host the Olympic Games, together with Hungary. However, he did not give a specific date for this.
Referring to an article by the Serbian Politika, the site writes that Aleksandar Vučić expressed his conviction that not only Belgrade, but also the country’s image will be changed, and the largest Aqua Center will be built besides the one in Budapest. According to him, what is being built now “will give them a chance to compete with the Hungarians,” and he set the goal of Hungary and Serbia jointly bidding to host the Olympic Games.
Balk.hu notes that municipal elections will be held in Belgrade and several Serbian cities on June 2, therefore such a statement should be seen in this light. However, the website adds that after it was made public that Serbia would co-host the Olympic Games with Hungary, it is almost certain that the issue has been raised in the dialogue between the two countries.
