Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced an agreement wherein the Chinese government will support Hungarian companies entering the Chinese market, citing examples such as a Hungarian medical diagnostic equipment manufacturer beginning operations in China and Richter’s success in the pharmaceutical industry.
He underscored Hungary’s leading position in food exports to China and mentioned an agreement to negotiate a regionalization agreement, which would facilitate continued exports of poultry and pork products from Hungary in the event of disease outbreaks.
The announcement followed talks between Minister Szijjártó and Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. He highlighted the continuous expansion of connections between the two countries, which he believes will foster trade and economic cooperation.
Reflecting on the outcomes of the Hungarian-Chinese Joint Economic Committee’s meeting, Mr. Szijjártó expressed satisfaction with the progress made over the past fifteen years. He stressed the mutual benefits of Sino-Hungarian cooperation and criticized the portrayal of China as a threat by the European Union, advocating instead for closer cooperation and respect between the EU and China.
The Minister highlighted China’s significant investment in Hungary over the past year and expressed gratitude for continued support from Beijing in attracting investment to Hungary.
A new air service will link Hungary and China, with direct flights from Budapest to Shenzhen twice a week starting in June, Szijjártó announced. This addition will make Shenzhen the seventh major Chinese city directly accessible from Budapest.
Minister Szijjártó emphasized the significance of this expansion, noting that Budapest will now offer 19 weekly flights to China, exceeding pre-Covid levels and surpassing other Central European airports in connectivity to China.
Just a day earlier, it was revealed that Budapest would also offer direct flights to Xi’an starting this summer, adding to the recently launched route to Guangzhou.
He concluded by mentioning upcoming meetings with Chinese business leaders, expressing hope for further investment in Hungary.
