“Brussels is mishandling the migration crisis,” asserts Barna Pál Zsigmond, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of EU Affairs.
He criticized the recent migration pact, stating that “Hungary insists on effective return systems and border protection instead of quotas.” The Secretary of State emphasized the need for a paradigm shift to prevent illegal migration, stressing: “the protection of external borders and cooperation with neighbors is paramount.” He condemns the migration pact for imposing binding quotas and migrant ghettos, saying
it contradicts Hungarian rejection of illegal migration.”
György Bakondi, the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor on Homeland Security, highlighted the severity of illegal migration since 2015, stating: “we must prevent illegal border crossings to maintain sovereignty and internal security.” Mr. Bakondi criticized the migration pact, emphasizing that “it is incompatible with Hungarian security needs.”
He anticipates illegal migration as a major issue in the European Parliament elections, advocating for representatives who prioritize national interests and border protection.
Migration activity at the Hungarian border has declined due to cooperation with Serbian police forces. However, human trafficking gangs have shifted to the Bosnian-Croatian border. Despite this, over 800 border crossers and 20 smugglers have been apprehended this year.
Barna Pál Zsigmond further attributes the rushed adoption of the migration pact to “left-wing, liberal MEPs and the Hungarian progressives, financed by the ‘Soros empire’.” He emphasized the necessity of EP representatives who reject illegal migration and stand for national interests.
