The forthcoming municipal and European Parliament elections hold immense significance for Hungary’s sovereignty, emphasized Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó during his speech in Békés (southeastern Hungary).

The Minister underscored that the country’s ability to safeguard its interests has been primarily due to the exceptional political stability it enjoys.

In his statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Szijjártó highlighted the tumultuous crises of recent years, which have repeatedly disrupted the global economic landscape. Despite these challenges, Hungary has managed to defend its interests effectively.

He pointed to the swift vaccination campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic, the successful investment stimulus program, and Hungary’s ability to navigate the Ukraine conflict without escalating tensions.

Maintaining a morally principled stance of peacemaking, preserving lives, and minimizing destruction has been paramount, he affirmed. He recalled instances such as evacuating Hungarians from Israel and successfully retrieving hostages from the Gaza Strip amid conflicts in the Middle East.

Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary’s exceptional political stability in Europe has been instrumental in its ability to resist pressures from the liberal world view.

He highlighted the importance of upholding national interests rather than succumbing to external influences.

Addressing the upcoming EP elections, Minister Szijjártó stressed the significance of a conservative turn to ensure a pro-peace and anti-migration stance. He noted the need for patriotic, right-wing parties to succeed in swaying the majority, which often leans towards socialist, green, liberal, and far-left ideologies.

Looking ahead, he warned of ongoing struggles to defend Hungary’s sovereignty against external challenges. He reiterated the importance of maintaining political stability to navigate these challenges effectively.

Highlighting the Visegrád  cooperation (V4, including Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Poland) as central to Hungarian foreign policy, Minister Szijjártó emphasized the collective strength of joint action in addressing crucial issues. He cited the effective stance against mandatory resettlement quotas as a testament to the group’s cohesion and effectiveness.

In conclusion, Szijjártó urged continued efforts to defend national interests and sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in the face of global pressures.
