The southern Transdanubian complex development program is aimed at reducing the north-south development gap in the country, declared the Minister of Regional Development during a ceremony in Dombóvár (southwest Hungary).
Speaking at an event celebrating the town’s 54th anniversary, Tibor Navracsics highlighted the program’s goal to aid southern regions that through no fault of their own, have lagged in development over the past three decades due to neglect and inattention from policymakers. He particularly noted the gloomy economic outlook, especially in Baranya county, and the decline of Pécs (southern Hungary) as a regional center, impacting surrounding regions.
Mr. Navracsics stressed the importance of supporting Dombóvár by enhancing its transportation infrastructure and fostering job creation, recognizing the city’s ambition to reclaim its prominent role.
János Árpád Potápi, Secretary of State for national policy, emphasized the necessity of strengthening Dombóvár as a transport hub to reintegrate it into the national framework. He highlighted investments in infrastructure, including links with Kaposvár (southwest Hungary) and Road 67, to ensure swift and secure connectivity from the M7 motorway to the capital and other regions.
Mr. Potápi also reflected on Dombóvár’s transformation under the new mayor, Szilárd Pintér, from discord to balance, enhancing the city’s prospects for the future. He underscored the significance of upcoming municipal elections on June 9, in maintaining this newfound peace.
The gala at the Cultural Center of Dombóvár celebrated the town’s anniversary by awarding honorary citizenship titles, merits, and recognizing young talents and economic contributors.
