A HUF 6 billion (EUR 15.4 million) investment will expand the Pécs-Pogány aircraft factory (southwestern Hungary). Thanks to the investment, a new, entirely Hungarian aircraft will be built at the factory, reports Világgazdaság. The new development will be launched by Magnus Aircraft Zrt.
“In recent years, we have learned that in times of crisis we can only rely on ourselves, so strengthening Hungary’s high-quality, knowledge-based industry is a strategic goal,” Finance Minister Mihály Varga said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new aircraft model development unit of Magnus Aircraft Zrt. The Finance Minister stressed that aircraft manufacturing has a long tradition in Hungary and the development of the sector will strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.
The Minister pointed out that “the Hungarian economy, after decades of extensive growth, must increasingly shift to intensive growth. This means increasing added value, which is based on high quality.” The new Magnus assembly hall is an important element of intensive economic growth, he said, because it guarantees quality and significant added value.
The company’s investment, worth a total of HUF 6 billion, will enable the start of domestic production of new four-seat aircraft under purely Hungarian ownership.
The new aircraft model will also be used for training purposes, including basic pilot training.
Varga stressed that the development of the aeronautics industry is strongly linked to the defense industry, including the preservation of peace. The accumulation of aeronautical engineering and manufacturing knowledge here means more domestic specialists than ever before, which will also strengthen Hungary’s defense capabilities, he added.
