Nostalgia Locomotives Running on the Children’s Railway during the Spring Break

It is worth making the most of the remaining days of the spring break to plan an outdoor excursion to the Buda Hills with a trip on the narrow-gauge railway, writes Turizmus.com. There are nostalgia engines running on the Children’s Railway this week: in addition to the steam locomotive, the C50 small locomotive is also in service.

The most popular hiking spots in the Buda Hills are easily accessible from the stations of the Children’s Railway and the popular observation carriages are already appearing in the trains during the spring excursion season. There is an excellent panoramic view of the capital from the lookouts close to the railway line: the Imre Makovecz and Károly Kaán lookout are half an hour’s walk from the Szépjuhászné station, and the Erzsébet lookout is half an hour’s walk from János Hill.

In April, trains will depart every hour on working days from Hűvösvölgy between 9:10 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., and from Széchenyi Hill between 10:03 a.m. and 5:03 p.m.

In the weekend timetable – in view of the increased excursion traffic – the regular passenger trains will run every 40-50 minutes, with trains departing from Hűvösvölgy at 5:00 p.m. and from Széchenyi Hill at 6:15 p.m.

During the spring break, a variety of nostalgia vehicles will be available for the enjoyment of narrow-gauge railway enthusiasts. In April, the steam locomotive will run every weekend. In addition, on Thursday and Friday this week, the green C50 small locomotive that was refurbished last year, will also be on the rails with its nostalgia train. The museum of the Children’s Railway in Hűvösvölgy is open every day until the end of the spring break.
