Slovak and Hungarian Army to Launch Joint Training Programs

Hungary Today 2024.03.20.

A Slovak-Hungarian Chiefs of Defense Meeting was held in Tata (northwestern Hungary) on Tuesday, where General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of Defense Staff, discussed with his Slovak counterpart the NATO engagement of the two countries. Possibilities for joint training and missionary involvement were also discussed during the meeting, honvedelem.hu reported.

Gábor Böröndi said that his Slovak counterpart, General Daniel Zmeko, agreed that successful bilateral cooperation is important for both the Slovak and the Hungarian side, as the Hungarian and Slovak forces are serving in the same operational area within NATO. Even their senior command will be the same in the near future, namely the Spanish corps command, he noted.

“It is in this context that we listened to the report of the Headquarters Multinational Division Center (HQ MND-C) in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary). Slovak Major General Tibor Králik has been in command of the division-level organization for almost a year.

We went through the NATO plans and the tasks we have to do, in terms of training and preparation for new combat procedures,”

Böröndi said.

The Chief of the Defense Staff stressed that he and General Zmeko personally have a very good relationship. “We both trained as riflemen, we have similar views on the world and the changing security environment,” he added.

The high-ranking guest was received with military honors at the Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade, where first the commander of the Tata unit, Colonel István Tóth, gave a command briefing to present the structure, tasks, and equipment of the military organization. The presentation was concluded by a static and dynamic demonstration of equipment and capabilities: the Slovak and Hungarian delegation had the opportunity to see the Lynx infantry and Gidrán armored fighting vehicles, the PzH2000 self-propelled gun, and Leopard tanks.
