The soldiers of the Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade received several weeks of theoretical and practical training on the use and maintenance of the Spike LR2 anti-tank missile at the Tata barracks (northwestern Hungary) and the Central Training Area of the Hungarian Defense Forces in the Bakony mountain range (north of Lake Balaton), reports honvedelem.hu.
The Israeli-made weapon, which replaced the previously used Soviet 9M113 Konkurs anti-tank missile, is
the most modern anti-tank missile of its day in terms of its capabilities.
It has a dual cumulative warhead and can be mounted on several types of vehicles: helicopters, warships, land combat vehicles.
As they write,
the Spike LR2 missiles are capable of destroying targets within their maximum launch range, even targets that are not directly visible but have known coordinates.
It requires a basic crew of two operators and has a highly professional and user-friendly digital system. Its entry into service will represent a major step forward in the armor-piercing capabilities of the Hungarian Defense Forces.
