At the 96th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Zsuzsa Mihalek, the set designer of Poor Things, alongside British production designers Shona Heath and James Price, was honored with the Academy Award for Best Production Design.
While Zsuzsa Mihalek could not be present to accept the Oscar statue, her colleagues Shona Heath and James Price graciously accepted it on her behalf on the stage of the Dolby Theater.
Poor Things, a film based on the novel by Scottish author Alasdair Gray and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, garnered significant recognition in Hungary, receiving 11 Oscar nominations.
Additionally, The Frankenstein Variation, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year and clinched the prestigious Best Film and Best Director awards, added to the acknowledgements.
Mihalek’s talent and dedication were further acknowledged earlier in February when she received a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for her outstanding work in production design.
