Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently gave an interview to the M1 news channel, covering various topics such as his visit to the U.S. and his meeting with former President Donald Trump, Hungary’s newly inaugurated Head of State, Tamás Sulyok, and the urgency to close the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Discussing the president’s position, Mr. Orbán emphasized his familiarity with all seven former heads of state throughout his political career, asserting his ability to discern the most suitable candidate for the nation’s needs. He highlighted qualities such as stability, calmness, predictability, and expertise, endorsing the former President of the Constitutional Court for the role.
During his trip to the U.S., he underscored his primary reason for visiting – an invitation from former President Donald Trump.
He lauded Mr. Trump as a “president of peace” with a plan to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict if re-elected.
Orbán pointed out that under Trump’s presidency, the U.S. avoided initiating conflicts and resolved several ongoing wars, aligning with Hungary’s interests in achieving peace.
Ahead of his visit to Mar-a-Lago, Florida, the Prime Minister delivered a presentation at the Heritage Foundation conservative political think tank in Washington DC. He highlighted Hungary’s unique position as an island of conservative politics in a liberal European landscape, earning the country significant prestige in the United States.
He emphasized Hungary’s reputation as the safest country in Europe and its commitment to family values, factors that contribute to its respect in America.
Orbán acknowledged challenges in curbing migration, reflecting on Hungary’s efforts and the resonance of such measures in the U.S.
Regarding the U.S. campaign, Mr. Orbán criticized attempts to suppress certain candidates, advocating for democratic principles. He empathized with Trump’s challenges, describing his ordeal as unprecedented.
He also discussed the economic implications of Mr. Trump’s potential re-election, emphasizing the significance of U.S. investment in Hungary
and the prospect of increased cooperation between American and Hungarian businesses. He highlighted Hungary’s role as a bridge between East and West, stressing the importance of balancing investments from various countries to enhance prosperity.
