The amendment to the regulation on one-day motorway vignettes could come into force in a matter of weeks. Under the draft, it will not apply for 24 hours from the date of redemption, but from 12 a.m. to midnight on the given day, reports Totalcar.hu.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Construction and Transport published the draft text of an amendment to the regulation on the introduction of one-day motorway vignettes on its website, setting out the price and the period of validity of the vignettes.
In accordance with the draft, a one-day vignette will cost 9% of the current price of the annual national vignette. This year, for motorcycles and most passenger cars (categories D1M and D1) with a maximum of seven passengers, an annual vignette costs HUF 57,260 (EUR 147 / 1 EUR=388 HUF),
therefore a one-day vignette will cost HUF 5,150, as previously reported.
For passenger cars (minibuses) and vans (category D2) weighing more than 3.5 tons and carrying eight or nine passengers, the price of an annual vignette will be 9% of the HUF 81,280, i.e. HUF 7,310.
It was previously unclear whether the one-day vignette is valid for 24 hours from the date of redemption or for a specific calendar day. According to the draft, it will be the latter. It says:
Daily entitlement: valid from 0 hours to 24 hours on the calendar day indicated by the purchaser.”
This means that if someone were to buy a one-day vignette for instance, at 1:48 p.m. on April 15, it would only be valid until the end of the day on April 15, not 1:47:59 p.m. on April 16.
The amendment is scheduled to enter into force on March 1. However, this does not necessarily mean that the one-day vignette will be available from March. According to the draft:
The price set will be published by the NÚSZ Zrt. on its website. At least 30 days must elapse between publication and entry into force.”
Totalcar.hu asked the company when the price is expected to be officially published and when the new vignettes will be available. The company wrote the following:
Our company will publish the one-day vignette price as soon as possible after the publication of the relevant regulation amendment.”
They continued: “Based on the relevant regulation, the price of the e-vignettes must be published by our company at least 30 days before the entry into force of the regulation. However, this applies to e-vignettes already included in the regulation in force.”
In practice, this means that the amendment to the legislation on the introduction of the one-day vignette will have to be published in the Hungarian Gazette and will include the date of entry into force. If the date in the draft is included, it will be possible to buy one-day vignettes from March 1.
