The first FAB Winterfest winter festival starts on Friday at the Hotel Palota in Lillafüred (part of Miskolc, northeastern Hungary), organized by the Festival Academy.
The Winterfest, lasting until Sunday, will feature more than fifteen local and foreign artists performing in the salons and halls of Hotel Palota. The three-day winter “mini-festival” will feature a daytime tea and salon concerts as well as evening concerts, the organizers announced.
The event will begin with excerpts from Bartók’s “Duos for Two Violins,” followed by works by Mozart such as the “Divertimento in E-flat major” and the “Sonata in E minor.” Friday will close with Richard Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel einmal anders, Op. 28.”
On Saturday, visitors can listen to Brahms’ “Cello Sonata in E minor” in the morning, Bach and Leclair’s “Afternoon tea with baroque music” in the afternoon, and Beethoven’s “Septet in E flat major, Op. 20,” and Strauss’ “Metamorphoses” in the evening. The concerts will be followed by a dinner with gypsy music and a chanson at the bar.
Sunday will feature excerpts from Bach’s “Goldberg variations” and a selection of Mozart’s “Quartets for Flute, Violin, Viola and Cello” The afternoon tea concerts will focus on literature, with a selection of Béla Bartók’s duets accompanied by poems by Hungarian poets Endre Ady, János Pilinszky, Attila József, and László Nagy.
The event will close with Brahms’ “Horn Trio in E flat major, Op. 40,” Bartók’s “Contrasts” and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence.”
The festival will feature foreign artists such as Ukrainian-British violinist and conductor Maxim Rysanov, Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Argentine pianist and chamber musician José Gallardo, German clarinetist Thorsten Johanns, Dutch flutist, professor, and instrument maker Jacques Zoon and cellist Iseut Chuat. Among the Hungarian artists who will perform at the festival are Dóra Kokas (cello), László Fenyő (cello), Zsolt Fejérvári (double bass), Tamás Benkócs (bassoon) and Szabolcs Zempléni (horn).
Hotel Palota will welcome guests during the festival who are welcome to attend the concerts. Tickets for each concert can be purchased separately on the Festival Academy website.
