This year’s selection kicks off with Zuzana Piussi’s The Unbalanced (Zošalieť), which takes a humorous approach to the everyday challenges of single mothers. After a series of political documentaries, the Slovak director has turned to fiction to create a social tragicomedy that retains her earlier documentary style.

The second section, “Hungarian Shorts,” consists of six short films. This selection includes Paradise by Ewa Wikiel, Demeter Lóránt’s Sileo, and Zsolt Dér’s Dub Hard Or The Sad And True Story Of The Robbery Of The Pannonia Dubbing Studio.

The second day of the festival opens with Quen Wong’s feature film Some Women. The autobiographical documentary is about a transgender Singaporean woman, and premiered at the Singapore International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.

The “International Shorts” program, featuring seven short films of different genres, showcases talents from all around the world. This selection draws on a variety of genres, cultures, and perspectives from Canada to the United States, Greece, Switzerland, and Belgium. Elias Suhail’s multi-awarded Beneath A Mother’s Feet, Eugénie Bouquet’s critically acclaimed Not in Love, and Tin Pak Lau’s The Stranger are also included in the final section of the festival.

The films will be screened with Hungarian or English subtitles. More information on the program is available on the event website.
