Viktor Orbán Discusses the Survival of Christianity in the Holy Land

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.01.18.

Viktor Orbán received Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, at the Carmelite Monastery (official residence of the PM).

During the meeting they discussed helping Christians living in the region in the midst of the current conflict.

Mr. Orbán and the Patriarch of Jerusalem said that fighting and hostilities that lead to the disappearance of Christian communities in the Holy Land should be avoided. Hungary will continue to support the survival of Christianity in the Middle East through the Hungary Helps program, providing humanitarian and faith-related support to the people living there.

Fact

The Hungary Helps Agency was established on April 14, 2019. As a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, its mission is to deliver efficient assistance at the local level, addressing specific local needs while upholding humanitarian principles and human rights. Projects are meticulously planned based on reports from local community representatives and executed in collaboration with local partners, predominantly religious organizations and NGOs. The agency extends support to victims of humanitarian, natural, and man-made crises through donations, with a specific emphasis on persecuted religious groups, although not exclusively.
